While popcorn that is air popped or cooked in coconut oil is actually a very healthy snack, microwave popcorn is not a great substitution. Microwave popcorn contains a ton of chemicals to keep it preserved, one type of which is perfluoroalkyls. These nasty chemicals have been linked to liver disease and many other health issues. Microwave popcorn is also pre-seasoned in most cases, so it comes with a whopping dose of salt and either oil or margarine. Instead of microwave popcorn, try popping your own and adding your own seasonings, it will be much healthier and you won’t be giving anything up.
