Does your family love a smooth, refreshing cup of applesauce, but dread the thought of the types of chemicals and preservatives that may go into it? Well, today’s your lucky day! Today we’re going to share a homemade applesauce recipe with minimal ingredients and maximum flavor. We bet you’ll be surprised that something so simple can do the trick in satisfying your family’s healthy sweet tooth.
As promised, this recipe only contains 5 ingredients. Drum roll please:
- Six pounds of sweet apples – Macintosh is our favorite type
- 1 cup of liquid – apple juice, apple cider, or water
- Juice from 1 lemon
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon, or to taste
Start by peeling and coring the apples and slicing each one into either separate pieces. Combine all the ingredients into a large pot. Cook everything up on medium heat for about 25 to 30 minutes. Be sure to stir occasionally as the apples may stick. Once the apples are very tender and break down naturally when poked, place the delicious concoction into a blender or food processor for the finishing touches.
You can serve hot, room temperature, refrigerated… on ice cream, pancakes, pork chops. One of the great things about applesauce is its versatility! Oh, did I mention that it’s also delicious?
